It holds adults before trial, before sentencing, and while serving local sentences. It may also accept people tied to other jurisdictions. That mix makes the departure code important. Bond, recognizance, dismissal, time served, sentence completion, and a court order can lead toward the community. A transfer code means the jail's custody ended while another custodian's control began.
The official jail record should be read from the facility's point of view. A person can be released from the Eastern Shore Regional Jail population without being free from all custody. Longer state commitments may lead from the regional jail to a Virginia Department of Corrections institution. Another warrant can lead to another county. Actual access and search costs may be charged. Inspection can avoid copy charges, although search or access costs may remain. Jail records can contain protected material, so a useful response may provide the release fields while redacting other information.

Eastern Shore Jail History
The current regional jail opened in May 2007. It replaced Northampton County's 93-year-old, 30-bed jail and expanded the local model to serve both Northampton and Accomack. The jail sits near the Sheriff, courts, and an on-site magistrate in Eastville's government complex. That proximity supports a practical check across custody and court records, but the offices do not share one public database.

Those figures are not interchangeable. The current page's bed count and the state profile's rated operating capacity use different dates and definitions. The FY2022 profile also reported 25,104 housed days, 46 percent capacity use, 62 funded positions, and zero federal contract beds. None is a release count.

Eastern Shore Release-Day Details
One concrete release practice is public: commissary funds cannot be withdrawn during confinement and are returned on a debit card when the person is released. The county does not publish a release door, processing hours, weekend procedure, transportation plan, family waiting area, or clothing and property method. Do not turn the lobby kiosk's weekday hours into a release schedule.
A former inmate also may not visit a current inmate until 90 days after release unless jail administration grants prior written approval. That restriction is separate from custody status, but it is a useful facility-specific fact for a household arranging contact after release. Call the jail about current visitation approval rather than relying on the release record. The waiting period concerns later visits, not the former inmate's release status.

After an Eastern Shore Transfer

Later, signed VADOC release papers establish actual departure from state custody more strongly than a future locator date.
For another county, contact the named receiving jail. For USMS, BOP, or ICE, move to that agency's custody channel. A federal pretrial detainee may never obtain a useful BOP entry because USMS can house people under contract. ICE release may lead to supervision, removal, or transfer.
